MIMIS History and Mission

The Minnesota Institute for Minimally InvasiveSurgery (MIMIS) was established in 2003, but we've been acquiring technologies and expertise as well as performing minimally invasive surgery for nearly 20 years.

MIMIS’s highly skilled and expertly trained surgeons and perioperative medical professionals are surgical leaders in the areas of laparoendoscopic, ophthalmic, GYN and orthopaedic procedures.  MIMIS’ facilities include state-of-the-art MIS surgical suites and endoscopy suites.  Two of the suites are equipped with telesurgery equipment.  This equipment gives MIMIS surgeons the ability to transmit and receive “real time” voice and video images of surgeries in progress.  We routinely perform more than 100 different procedures using minimally invasive techniques.

Typical incision size in many minimally invasive procedures is 3 millimeters. Some incisions may be larger. One goal of minimally invasive surgery is to operate through the smallest possible incisions.

Benefits of minimally invasive surgery:

  • Smaller incisions
  • Less pain
  • Faster recovery
  • Reduced risk of infection

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Minnesota Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery is to apply, advance, teach and propagate minimally invasive surgical procedures and techniques in an ongoing effort to help our patients(and people everywhere) lead healthier, happier lives.

Our Promise:

When you come to MIMIS for surgery, we will look for the least invasive way that is medically appropriate to perform that surgery. We will apply all our skills and experience in an effort to provide you the best possible outcome with less pain, a lower risk of infection and the fastest possible healing time.
